A "koma" is a young pony. The "Spring Horse" dance is a custom where a young entertainer holding a hobby horse dance prop makes the rounds of the neighbourhood during the lunar New Year, dancing to the tune of a drum and shamisen. This dance is also performed by geisha and maiko to entertain their customers, as depicted in this scroll.
