by Shotei, Takahashi (1871-1945) - 高橋松亭
|Artist:||Shotei, Takahashi (1871-1945) - 高橋松亭|
|Series:||The Four Seasons|
|Medium:||Scroll/Makuri roll - 掛軸ーまくり|
|Format:||Long scroll - 掛軸,|
|Notes:||This is a very rare set of four scroll paintings by Takahashi Shotei representing the four seasons. They are obviously very old, and along with the aged scroll box and bone end rollers I date this set to around 1900. The four individual paintings can be viewed here
The hand of Takahashi Shotei is very strong in some of the paintings. Furthermore, the signatures are nearly identical to the other two Takahashi Shotei scrolls in my collection that he has sealed "Takahashi Noriaki": see here and here, and the seal surrounds (a small urn?) are also similar. Painted area size: 50 x 126cm. Signature 'Shotei' above a red seal that also reads "松亭" (Shotei).
