Good impression and condition. Printed on very fine washi. Full margins. No tears, foxing or stains. Has very minor soiling at sheet extremities, near-invisible light horizontal centre-fold, crease at lower left corner well outside image area, and near-invisible light horizontal crease near upper left seal. Woodgrain texture can be seen in the hat, coat sleeve, and upper background, indicating an early impression. Good colour, impression and ink penetration. See large image below.
This rare print was commissioned by the Jiji Newspaper Company (時事新報) and published as a limited edition (thought to be only 150 prints), in celebration of the anniversary of the company's founding. The bottom margin contains (from right to left) the print title "Showa Bijin Fukei", "Asaharu", and artist name. Shinsui's signature and red seal upper left.
