A picturesque scene from the base of the famous 5-storey pagoda of Matsushima, by Shiro Kasamatsu. This print is a rare first edition, as indicated by the printing of the date in the lower left margin. This date seal was carved off the woodblock after the first edition. Also in the left margin are Unsodo publisher's seal, Shinmi printer's seal, Nagashima carver's seal, and Unsodo watermark. Kasamatsu red seal in lower right of image.
The mark in the right margin and the cut-out in the bottom right corner (known as a 'kento cut') are due to the printing process.
